Analyst Week 7

Hello everyone! I’m Lucía and this week I am the analyst. I’m in charge of assessing the job carried out by each member of Las Definitivas group as well as reflecting on this week’s task. This week’s task was about Computational Thinking. We were introduced to coding thanks to the app The Hour of Code, which is an app that offers interactive tutorials for learning how to code. We explored three of the activities that this app offers and we had to create a radio programme explaining our experience and what the app is about.

I will now make a reflection about this task and how we feel about this week’s assignment.

Let’s start with the best aspects of the activity and our week. I must admit that while doing the activity’s tutorials we had so much fun because it was as if we were playing and being kids again. We also realised how easy it is to code at this level and I’m sure that we’ll be using the activities just for fun in the near future. As for the week, the best moment for us was when we were listening to our finished radio programme just before sending it. Since we included some songs and sound effects in it, we couldn’t stop laughing.

We had some difficulty figuring out how to create the podcasts and recording them. We had to make some as to who would record each piece of the programme because of some problems with the audio. However, we easily overcame these little obstacles.

While doing this activity we have learnt so much. Firstly, we learnt how to code and create things that we couldn’t even imagine. Moreover, we know how to create a radio programme by recording separate podcasts. Apart from that we can appreciate how much we’ve grown as a group . This week was evident that our organization and group skills have improved a lot. We decided to divide the tasks considering each member’s strengths and weaknesses and I think that everyone has done their best. This week was definitely a good one for our group and we should conserve our optimism and division of tasks strategies so that we work efficiently and obtain the best result possible.

Obviously, we still have a long way to go and there’s much room for improvement. I find it very important that we communicate with each other so that everyone takes part in the decision-making process. As a group, we want all our members to feel heard and supported.

Another relevant fact that I’d like to mention is how helpful this task is for being a teacher. It is well-known that teaching requires to give many explanations in a creative and understandable way, so creating a radio programme is a kind of class in which you have to explain how to do something. Furthermore, now we know how to use the Hour of Code , which is a resource that could make our lessons much more dynamic in the future.

Considering the context that we live in, I find this activity even more useful . Nowadays technology is evolving really rapidly and we must keep up to date if we want to succeed in our professional careers. Besides, the skills that the activity promotes, which are creativity, decision-making and logic among others, are crucial for the next generations. Also, the pandemic situation requires to keep social distance in classrooms and even work from home, so this task shows that it’s still possible to learn and have fun under these circumstances. If we think about Spain and the educational changes that have recently taken place in the last months because of the new educational law, we realise that education must be renewed and include some practical aspects like the ones that The Hour of Code provides.
