Star Week 3

Hey guys!! How is the week going? It´s Cristina again and as a star of the week ( saying it I feel like a little kid when they´ve been good in class and they get a “gomet” with a smiley on their forehead) I´m going to tell you a little bit about our comic.

First of all we chose Modern Comic style for the fact that we perceive it as the expression of freedom for the reason that “anything” can be considered a Modern Comic which is a mix of genres. We were inspired by Maus, a postmodern graphic novel by Art Spiegelman that tells the story of a survivor of the Holocaust (the author´s father), and Tintin, that uses the “ligne claire” for the illustrations, to fulfill the task and make this wonderful comic.

Regarding our own comic, it has been developed trying to follow both of the comics named above, being the first characterized by simple lines and sort of a 2D look and the second by black and white.

For all of you to deeply understand the illustrations I want you to think as if you were in the movie Ready Player One, have you watched it? In the case you haven't it's like if with no technology the world was awful and rusty, and when the main character puts his virtual glasses on he sees a full world full of color and challenges. This is all put together in a way that the main character, thanks to the glasses, starts discovering how amazing ICT can be applied to a classroom and in which we inserted the 4 potentialities from Lemke´s text: teamwork, worldwide connections thanks to the internet, outperformance in grades by visual and auditory input and increase in creativity.

For this comic to come to life we followed a long list of steps, which was one part of what the presentation was about. To confront this task we split into sub-teams in our own team, to get to the full depth of the document and to elaborate a homogeneous comic. After reading the document we put together a summary of all the core concepts to extract from it the 4 potentialities of ICT in the classroom. Then we made a dwarf script along with a brainstorm of ideas for each cartoon. Afterward Marta put all the things together in this magnificent comic. To tackle the creation of the comic she first did the little squares and divisions of the page and then started filling them with what we had discussed before of what was going to be part of it and what was the sketch of each bullet.

In the end, the moral of our story is basically how technology enlightens our school life, how it engages with students into a more dynamic and efficient, as well as approachable, type of learning.

Being the star was quite a challenge because speaking in public is always a little stressful for me and I think that for many of you it is too. Because of that I prepared myself a detailed speech and did some sort of flashcards for the presentation, but once the camera was on I said something completely different but that, thankfully, told the same story. so the story has a happy ending.

Hope you looovee our comic!!!
